How to Measure Your Dog For A Collar (WITH SIZING CHART)
When buying your new VigilantesK9 collar, the most important part is to ensure the proper fit for your dog. Too tight, or too loose of a collar will create an unsafe situation for your dog. At VigilantesK9, where embroidery is available to purchase, we also want to make sure the name is visible and up to our standards. This post will help you measure your dog to ensure that your VigilantesK9 collar will keep your pup comfortable, secure and most importantly, safe.

How to Measure a Dog’s Neck for a Collar
Step 1: find a flexible tape measure. If you don’t have a flexible table measure available, a piece of string, rope, or even a phone charging cable will be just as effective for measuring.

Step 2: Around the thickest part of your dog’s neck wrap the tape measure (for smaller dogs, this will usually be about 1-2″ below the ear – for larger dogs, this will be 3-4″ (possibly more) below the ear). Be sure to mark the point where the tape measure overlaps. When wrapping the tape measure around the dog’s neck based on sizing preference, you should be able to comfortably slip two fingers under the collar. (Note: if you were using a string, rope, or other measure device, lay it flat, stretch it tight, and then measure it with a ruler to get the proper measurement.)

Dog Collar Sizing Tips
The sizing of your dog’s collar should be checked regularly to ensure it is a safe fit. Especially if your dog is a growing puppy, there should always be room for your dog to breathe. Contrasting to if the collar has adjusted from normal activity, it should be fitted to fit tighter to prevent slipping out of.
